Caramel Apple Pie

I think we can all agree that “Apple Pie” is an iconic American dessert. It’s simple to make and creates a lasting memory. I remember growing up eating lots of desserts including cakes and pies. Lets just say my mom and grandma are amazing bakers and I blame them for my sweet tooth problems! Hi, my name is Tamara and I am a sugar addict! Ok, there I admitted it! 🙂 Anyways, there was never a shortage of sweets when I was growing up including chocolate cake, red velvet cake, coconut cake, german chocolate cake AND pecan pie, pumpkin pie, and of course “Apple Pie!” There’s nothing like a warm apple pie except for maybe a warm “Caramel Apple Pie!” I mean who doesn’t love caramel apples, right? Now, combine the two so they can work in harmony to create a delicious “Caramel Apple Pie!” Then you can top the pie with a little melted caramel, nuts, and extra apples AND Ooooo Weeee! So, without further ado, I introduce to you my warm “Caramel Apple Pie!”

Ingredients
  1. 3 1/2 Cups Granny Smith Apples Diced
  2. Pillsbury Pie Crust
  3. 2 Cups of Applesauce (no sugar added)
  4. 1/3 Cup of Sugar
  5. 3 tbsp of Agave
  6. 1 tbsp Cinnamon
  7. 1 tbsp Fresh Squeezed Lemon
  8. 20 Caramels Halved
  9. 2 tbsp of butter
  10. 1 Egg White
  11. How to Make Caramel Apple Topping
  12. 20 Caramels
  13. 1-2 tbsp of Milk
  14. 1Granny Smith Apple Diced
  15. 1-2 tsp Pecan Chips
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Dice your apples and caramels.
  3. Mix your apples, caramels, and remaining ingredients (except for the butter & egg white.) Toss everything so its well coated.
  4. Pour your caramel apple mixture in pie dish on top of dough.
  5. Take the last layer of pillsbury dough and cut into strips then criss cross across the top of the pie pressing the sides with a fork.
  6. Brush the top of the crust with egg white and add the butter across the top.
  7. Bake 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue to bake for about 45 minutes or until crust and topping are golden brown.
  8. Make a caramel apple pecan topping. Add caramels and milk to a pot and melt. Then stir in your apple and pecan chips and pour over the top of your pie!
